For the past 100 years the United States fueled its economic growth by utilizing fossil fuels in electric generation, transportation, and building heating and cooling. We have been adversely affecting our climate in ways that are hard to reverse and are commonly called "Global Warming" or "Climate Change". The increasing combustion of fossil fuels, particularly coal, has been spewing enormous amounts of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the air for many decades. This trend needs to be reversed by a massive shift to renewable energy, primarily solar energy, wind power generation and increased energy efficiency. This change may also involve a shift to electricity for much of our transportation needs. Experts believe we need to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions as much as 80% in the next thirty years to reverse climate change.

Enormous progress has been made to bring the cost of solar electricity closer to the cost of generation with fossil fuels, especially after accounting for fossil fuel's negative environmental impacts. Solar electricity production is predicted to be cost competitive with fossil fuel generation in the sunnier parts of the US within as little as five years. Federal and state economic incentives exist in New Jersey, California and a number of other states to make solar electric systems an attractive investment now. While California leads in the western US, New Jersey leads on the East Coast with over 5000 solar electric systems installed and connected to the electric distribution grid. Isn't it time for you to green your electric supply? If you are a large commercial facility have a large unshaded roof, solar will work for you now.

The world desperately needs new energy solutions that address problems created by conventional electricity generation with fossil fuels. In the United States, 50% of all electricity is generated by coal-powered plants, 20% comes from natural gas-powered plants and another 20% is generated by nuclear powered plants. The negative impacts of this generation produce:

  • Emissions which contribute to global warming and poor air quality
  • Price volatility created by global energy commodity market fluctuations
  • Balance of payment flows that put billions of dollars into volatile and sometimes hostile countries
  • National security risks associated with dependence on foreign fossil fuel sources and acts of terrorism
  • Health and safety issues in the mining, transportation, processing, consumption and disposal of fuels and wastes

Renewable Power sources offer attractive alternatives to conventional fossil electricity generation. Among today’s renewable energy choices, solar electric power has emerged as a leading option for homes and busineses. Solar electric power is:

  • Clean – Solar produces no carbon footprint or harmful emissions.
  • Abundant – A single 100-square mile solar power system could provide all the electricity needed in the US each year.
  • Dependable – Solar panels are proven and highly reliable; they have 20-25 year warranties and last a minimum of 30 to 40 years. And solar power costs are fixed with no fuel price risk.
  • Distributed – Solar energy is available everywhere electricity is used, and is more valuable than centrally generated electricity because it is generated where it is consumed.
  • Cost Effective – Current financial and tax incentives make solar electricity cost-competitive with conventional electricity.
  • Sustainable – Solar power technology can provide electricity for our world indefinitely, without contributing to global climate change or producing radioactive waste.
